Side By Side

So..........another 3 weeks of waiting and another disappointing hatch:(
I have seven so far, culled two and 39 eggs still in the incubator.I see a couple that are wiggling but I'm not very hopeful. This will be it for a while. There is obviously a problem some where,I just can't figure it out.

Going for a ride to the barn.

Seven Wee Ones

Well, well, well, not what I was expecting but very thankful to have these little ones.I don't know what went wrong for sure......humidity,temp,not viable eggs, not a proper lock-down,etc.There are two trying to hatch still,so I will leave all the eggs in the incubator until the weekend.I'll crack some open and have a look at the air cell, etc.I've started to collect eggs to set early next week.

They are soooooooo cute!

12 MORE!!

I've added 12 more eggs....5 Barred Rock and 7 Silver Laced Wyandotte.....I didn't think I would be getting them until the end of the month. So,I had to make a temporary tray for them.....will switch some of mine in to the carton tomorrow and use the proper tray for the new ones.I have read that other hatcher's have had successful hatches in the carton.

Set@1.00pm Feb 12,2011

39 eggs set in the incubator today,I tried squeezing one more egg out of the little red hens to make it an even 40 but no go......so I'll add what they lay tomorrow and hopefully that will fill the third egg rack, each rack holds 16 eggs.

32 beautiful brown eggs and 7 below that you can't see.

Getting Ready!!

The incubator is cleaned and warming up! The next 48 hrs will be spent tweaking the relative humidity, the temperature won't be a problem as it is calibrated to 100 F.

This is my wet bulb,it's a shoelace type material that goes over the wet bulb thermometer. In order to get a relative humidity reading you need two thermometers, one dry and one wet.

This is the wet bulb thermometer reading.

The egg turner is set to automatic,It turns every two hours.

All I need is the eggs! wooohoooo!!

Settled In

So,the roo and his ladies are settled in.They really seem to be enjoying their courting coop.9 eggs today,so the move didn't bother them too much.I should be able to start picking the eggs I want to use in the incubator next week.
