Time is running out.....

It appears that one (some) of our hens is coming to the end of  her egg laying life. Our hens that will be two in the spring have served us well. They never slowed down and continued to lay all through the winter months'.They never had any artificial lighting, that was a personal choice but they do have natural light and I believe this is why they lay so well and are generally happier.

Poor thing....it can't be comfortable to lay this.

Set@1.00pm Feb 12,2011

39 eggs set in the incubator today,I tried squeezing one more egg out of the little red hens to make it an even 40 but no go......so I'll add what they lay tomorrow and hopefully that will fill the third egg rack, each rack holds 16 eggs.

32 beautiful brown eggs and 7 below that you can't see.

Getting Ready!!

The incubator is cleaned and warming up! The next 48 hrs will be spent tweaking the relative humidity, the temperature won't be a problem as it is calibrated to 100 F.

This is my wet bulb,it's a shoelace type material that goes over the wet bulb thermometer. In order to get a relative humidity reading you need two thermometers, one dry and one wet.

This is the wet bulb thermometer reading.

The egg turner is set to automatic,It turns every two hours.

All I need is the eggs! wooohoooo!!

Settled In

So,the roo and his ladies are settled in.They really seem to be enjoying their courting coop.9 eggs today,so the move didn't bother them too much.I should be able to start picking the eggs I want to use in the incubator next week.
